Miss Draper Pageant Performance

Kenz was asked to sing the National Anthem and an original song for the
Miss Draper Pageant.

She has always been so grateful for the support
she has received from the Draper community that she happily accepted the invitation.

She got there at 3 pm to sound check but none of the sound guys were there.
No biggie.

She got there at 6 pm to sound check and it was a pretty chaotic moment.
Those that have worked with Kenz know she doesn't really need a sound check
and can do a lot of her sound all by herself.
So that is was she chose to do.
She decided not rely on the sound tech but just use her own amp and mic.
Easy!!

After getting all set up back stage
and assigning someone to help her get her equipment on stage for her,
she came out to chat with me.
She kept saying... "I have a bad feeling about this."
I reassured her that it was just National Anthem nerves talking.
She does NOT enjoy sing the National Anthem.

The show started and she sang the anthem (in a key she had never tried before) but sounded GREAT!
(She had her note in her head and then someone tried to talk to her before hitting the stage and her note was gone....
This & the fact that she is a perfectionist when it comes to her music is why she doesn't like singing this song.)

Then I started getting text from her.
K: "Mom.  Is something burning on the top right corner of the curtain?"
Me: "I don't see it but I can smell it."
K: They're calling the fire dept.
I found it.
It's actually on the other side.
Lights on a curtain.
I don't want to go on until it's fixed"
Me:  "it'll be fine"

And she is announced to come and sing.

It sounded great.
A mash up of her original song One Good Reason
(click here to listen and/or buy
and the classic Stand By Me.
Half way through the song,
the audience is laughing and she has no idea why.
Broke my heart.

Note from Kenz:
Congratulations to Miss Draper 2016 and cute Rachel Parkinson (Miss Draper Teen) and everyone else involved!  And shoutout my special friends who joined me on stage as well.

By the end of the song, she figured it out.
Several firefighters decided to walk behind her as she was singing to check out the fire.
Our sweet Mayor Troy Walker apologize profusely
stating the firemen insisted on taking the quickest and straightway route to the fire.

She did her best to cover up the crazy moment but was still horribly embarrassed.
She had planned to stay and try to sell some of her merchandise after the pageant
but made a quick exit with a few tears in her eyes.

I personally was SO proud of her
grace under pressure
(I would have said "fire" but there have been way to many jokes and puns about this one. - again poor kenz).

I know someday she will laugh about this one.  Maybe not today but someday.

Sunday Nights Summer Concert Series

SUNDAY NIGHT CONCERTS
IN THE PARK

Click HERE  for the ad on Kenz
Click HERE for their concert schedule.

It was a beautiful night
and the amphitheater is one of the nicest I've seen.

Kenz invited Nate Smeding to play drums.
Nathan Turley to play guitar.
Adam Dorius to play an original they wrote together as well as another 90's hit.
Adam, Kenz, Nate, Nathan
Everyone did amazing.

Kenz was nervous about the turn out but it was a FULL HOUSE and then some.
I wish I had a picture of the crowd when she finally went on.

I was so proud of her.

Seminary Graduation - How Great Thou Art

per kenz: Had the pleasure of singing one of my most favorite hymns last night.  Thank you to Bro. Mike Anderson playing the piano for me.

Per performance jitters

Laughing with the Stake Presidency

Teasing Bro. Wolfe - glad he puts us with her.
Bro. Wolfe - "Your song was beautiful."
Kenz - "thanks.  you're still from Idaho."

These two moved into the neighborhood a month apart as little 11 year olds and have been best friends ever since.  I love Hunter!!

Opening for Foreign Figures

Kenz was invited to be one of the opening acts for Foreign Figures .
She had met this band when they came to perform at her high school and really liked them.
She had some reservations but decided to accept the gig.

I talked to her about her concerns and basically told her not to worry
and that it will be a great show with a fun crowd.
She sold tickets to some family friends and started to put together her set.

She met Nate Smeding at the Play It Forward show in January.
He is a drummer and he is AWESOME!!
She thought this would be the perfect show to have him join her.
They met and practiced once.
These two are the funniest people together.  Once in a while you meet someone that "gets you"  - Kenz is still sometimes a mystery to me -  I loved watching the two of them practice and laugh and talk strange and totally "get" each other.

I can't thank Nate enough for drumming for Kenz and treating her with the most utmost respect.

I'm not going to share Kenzie's concerns but just like every other music situation her gut was right
- all of her concerns happened  - and I was eating crow.

Wont Set Fire

Stay with me

One Good Reason

MOM SIDE NOTE; it's So frustrating to get there on time, invite friends and fans, and then to not get a sound check (which you can hear in all the videos  - Kenz and the guys in her band all said they hoped they sounded okay because they couldn't hear a thing on stage) and have them start the concert an hour and a half LATE.  Since I am the mom, I can vent and complain.  Kenz is so easy and always happy to be on stage but I personally was extremely frustrated with how things went down and I apologize to those we sold tickets to.
aint it fun
wont set fire
stay with me
one good reason
come together
